The National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua) at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as research scientist in fisheries management and fish population dynamics with emphasis on research, advice and management of data limited fish and shellfish stocks.
The researcher will join the section for Ecosystem based Marine Management in Copenhagen. The department has 35 employees and focuses on interdisciplinary research improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and how they are managed. It offers an internationally recognised and highly dynamic scientific environment. The researcher will enter the research group of “Fisheries Management” with very close cooperation with the “Population Dynamics” research group.
Responsibilities and tasks
The research tasks will focus on assessment and management of data limited fish and shellfish stocks. The candidate is expected to conduct research and disseminate research results within fisheries management and fish population dynamics among other in peer reviewed scientific journals and technical reports. Important tasks will be to further develop methods and software for assessment and management of data limited stocks as well as provision, processing and analyzing existing data and information on such stocks.
The candidate is expected to provide scientific advice to public authorities, participate in international working groups, communicate with stakeholders and contribute to development of DTU Aqua’s internal and external cooperation.

Qualifications
The candidate must:
•hold a PhD degree or equivalent,
•have experience in research on fish and/or shellfish population dynamics, assessment and modeling,
•have scientific research experience, production and potential within the work areas described under responsibility and tasks above.
Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
•scientific production and research potential at international level
•innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas
•the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities
•an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience
•the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation
For the specific position consideration will also be given to:
•experience in fish stock assessment science and advice as well as with assessment method development and modeling
•strong data analytical skills of relevant stock assessment data
•the ability to promote and utilize research results in externally financed research projects
•experience in contributing to international advisory Work
•ability to work independently but also with cooperative skills with scientists from different disciplines, technicians and fishing industry

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
The post of research scientist is a permanent post as part of which the employee after a maximum of 4 years transfers to a position as senior research scientist provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and is deemed qualified.
Place of employment will be at DTU Aqua, Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management, Charlottenlund Castle, Charlottenlund, Denmark.
