Job offer description

Postdoc for Topology Optimization of Energy Systems

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

Lyngby-Taarbæk, 1 stilling

The TopTen project is concerned with development of advanced methods and computer codes for automatic generation of optimal thermal energy systems based on expected operating conditions and system requirements. The codes will be based on topology optimization techniques that will be used to optimize the structure of various energy systems to improve heat transfer and other critical performance aspects.

This postdoc position deals with testing of optimized structures from other members of the project. The postdoc will focus on design of several test stands that can verify the thermal performance of heat sinks, water-to-air heat exchangers and regenerators.

Responsibilities and tasks

In this two-year postdoc project your main task will be to take optimized designs from other members in the project and implement them in custom built thermal test stands. It will be important to compare results from the optimized structures to standard designs that are currently used.

Fabrication of the optimized structures will be a major challenge. The designs will likely be made in metal for good thermal performance and may be quite intricate. Methods to make these advanced structures and how to test them will be a major aspect of the project.t

Qualifications

- PhD degree in engineering, physics or similar.

- Experience with heat and mass transfer and machine design with good laboratory experience.

- Experience testing heat exchangers, including regenerators.

- Preferably interest in and experience with numerical modelling, including COMSOL, MATLAB and similar programs.

- Ability to work independently, to plan and carry out complicated tasks, and to be a part of a large, dynamic Group.

- Good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
