Compliance Counsel - Maternity Cover

A.P. Møller - Mærsk A/S (Maersk Drilling)

We are looking for an experienced legal compliance lawyer or compliance professional to cover one of our senior Compliance Professionals in our growing Legal Compliance Department supporting three Business Units within the Maersk Group: Maersk Drilling, Maersk Supply Service and Maersk Tankers. The maternity cover is 10 months starting August 1st, 2016.

We Offer

We offer the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with three international Business Units within the Maersk Group.

Maersk Drilling, Maersk Supply Service and Maersk Tankers have their Corporate Head Offices in the Copenhagen area. Legal Compliance, housed within the Maersk Drilling Legal Department, supports these Business Units in all aspects of legal compliance, including anti-corruption, trade control and sanctions compliance, competition compliance and data privacy.

During the maternity cover you will be part of a legal compliance team of 3 full time professionals and 2-3 part time legal assistants, and part of a larger Legal Department of 7 professional lawyers.

This maternity cover offers the chance to work in close cooperation with the commercial, operational and management teams in three different business units within the Maersk Group and to deal with the full range of legal compliance issues across many countries and legal jurisdictions.

As the Business Units are currently operating in countries in Northern Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, the position offers the possibility of international travel.

During the maternity cover you will be part of a truly international company with our employees representing 65 nationalities. Our strong focus on diversity is a natural outcome of a company with a strong talent focus, mindset and culture. This goes hand in hand with a commitment to inclusion: all employees are valued and treated with respect at all times and we believe that our employees thrive and perform better with a healthy work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

You will join the Legal Compliance team responsible for overseeing and managing the legal compliance program for each of the Business Units, with a focus on anti-corruption, foreign trade control/sanctions and competition law.

You will report directly to the Head of Legal Compliance. Specifically, you will be:

•Reviewing and negotiating contracts and participating in the tender process with a specific focus on legal and trade compliance obligations

•Maintaining and further developing legal compliance procedures and processes;

•Maintaining and further developing training materials and training plans covering all aspects of compliance within the Business Units

•Travelling to the local offices for each Business Unit as necessary to advise on compliance issues, monitor implementation of compliance processes and deliver in-person training

•Managing compliance due diligence processes and practices for the Business Units’ worldwide operations

•Liaising and working closely with the commercial, finance, CSR and other departments to maintain an integrated approach to compliance across the business units, acting as ambassador for compliance issues within the Business Units and advising on individual compliance issues that arise

•Representing the Business Units in relation to legal compliance issues within the Maersk Group of companies

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a candidate who is:

•A qualified lawyer or experienced compliance professional with a proven track record in implementation, enforcement and management of compliance programmes and processes

•Directly experienced with legal compliance law and issues. Specific experience and knowledge of the export control/trade sanctions applicable to a multi-national, EU-based company is preferable, but not required

•Comfortable presenting and explaining complex issues in a clear and concise way to personnel throughout the Business Units, from offshore crew to top management

•Commercially-minded, practical, team-oriented and good at keeping focus on multiple tasks and issues

•Energetic, dedicated and driven to take our current compliance programmes to the next level

•Able and ready to take on big challenges and to be an ambassador for compliance in the Business Units. Familiar with English and/or American common law

•Willing to travel internationally

•Fluent in spoken and written English
