Job offer description

Novo Nordisk A/S

Ballerup, 1 stilling

- Research & Development

- Denmark - Måløv

The Upstream 1 team is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual to strengthen our mammalian cultivation and process development activities. The position is in the Upstream Technologies Department, within the Global Research Unit located in Måløv, north-west of Copenhagen. It is available from 1st of January and applications will be evaluated continuously.

The Global Research Unit specialises in the discovery of biological medicines for the treatment of type 1 and 2 diabetes. We also discover and develop new innovative biopharmaceuticals for haemophilia and growth disorders. Furthermore, we conduct stem cell and beta cell regeneration research and other early-stage investigations aimed at finding a cure for diabetes, as well as exploring novel treatments for obesity and long-term, micro-vascular complications of diabetes.

About the department

The department, Upstream Technologies, consists of 8 scientists and 16 technicians divided into two teams, the cell culture team, Upstream 1 and the yeast cultivation team, Upstream 2.

The department is responsible for initial process development for new drug substance candidates and for providing proteins for preclinical testing. For this purpose we use state-of-the art technologies within protein expression and cultivation technologies, in close collaboration with the other departments in Recombinant Protein Technologies and the other areas within in Global Research and CMC Supply. In the Upstream 1 team we are focussed on selection and characterisation of new mammalian cell lines, media development and early development of cell cultures and initial recovery processes.

The job

Our work is facilitated by multidisciplinary project teams. You will provide scientific expertise within mammalian physiology and cultivation technology to several early stage projects. You will plan, evaluate and report experimental work in the laboratory, carried out by experienced laboratory technicians and yourself both independently and in close collaboration with other team members. You will be part of our skilled group of scientists maintaining and developing our mammalian cell culture platforms. Furthermore, you will be responsible for early cultivation and recovery process development and transfer to CMC Supply.

Qualifications

You hold a PhD in biotechnology, cultivation technology or cell biology and have excellent theoretical and practical skills within mammalian cell culture physiology and cultivation technologies. Knowledge within state-of-the art cultivation systems, downscale models and initial recovery is of particular interest. You should be well versed in laboratory culture techniques and have a comprehensive understanding of cultivation optimisation and scale up of bioreactors.

Finally, since all work takes place in multidisciplinary project groups, good interpersonal and communicative skills are essential.

The Global Research Unit consists of app. 1.500 highly qualified Scientists, PhDs/PostDocs and Lab Technicians and we conduct our world class research from sites based in the Greater Copenhagen area, Beijing and Seattle.

We always strive for excellence and continuously develop our expertise to stay ahead - both as a company and as individuals. And we believe innovation and creativity thrive in a healthy and engaging working environment. Therefore, we give you the opportunity to bring your personal ambition and passion to work to improve the quality of life of our patients.

At Novo Nordisk, your skills, dedication and ambition help us change lives for the better. In exchange, we offer you an opportunity to work with extraordinary talent and benefit from a range of possibilities for professional and personal development.
