The Niels Bohr Institute Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in High Performance commencing 1 January or as soon as possible thereafter.



Project description

The scholarship is financed thorough the CINEMA project goo.gl/xuElYq, that uses imaging technologies to investigate complex materials in energy materials. The project is focused on high performance computing solutions for data analyses. The algorithms them selves are developed by other partners in the project, thus the focus in this project is entirely on HPC. You will work both on specific solutions for image- and data-analysis, as well as generic solutions in collaboration with the other members of the Bohrium-software team, see bh107.org.



The successful candidate has a strong background in computer architecture, structured programming, and preferably existing knowledge of High Performance Computing. Knowledge of imaging techniques and complex materials is a plus.

Job description

Your key tasks as a PhD student at Science are:

• Manage and carry through your research project

• Take PhD courses
• Write scientific articles and your PhD thesis
• Participate in congresses
• Stay at an external research institution for a few months, preferably abroad
• Teach and disseminate your research

Key criteria for the assessment of candidates

A master’s degree related to the subject area of the project

• The grade point average achieved
• Professional qualifications relevant to the PhD programme
• Previous publications
• Relevant work experience
• Other professional activities
• Language skills
• Marks obtained during the first year of study on the master programme (only relevant for applicants applying for a 4-year scholarship)

Formal requirements

Applicants should have an MSc degree with good results and good English skills. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.



Integrated MSc and PhD Scheme

The position is also available for candidates who are (or are eligible to be) enrolled at one of the faculty’s master programmes in physics. Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 306,667 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 42,361). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
