DTU Environment at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites applications for a position as Professor in Hydrology and Water Resources Management.
DTU Environment is a department with an overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within the following scientific areas: Urban Water Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Residual Resource Engineering and Environmental Chemistry.
The professor will be appointed to the Water Resources Engineering section.
Responsibilities and tasks
The professor is expected to take leadership in the area of hydrology and water resources management, with an emphasis on the utilisation of new data sources such as remote sensing and land hydrogeophysics, and with interests in for example hydroeconomic analysis, modelling and water resources management at the larger scale.
The professor should work at the interface between science and engineering, be responsive to societal needs, have experience and ability to work in a collaborative international research environment, interact with industrial as well as public partners, and provide outstanding and committed research-based teaching. The professor must demonstrate personal qualities of leadership, flexibility, scientific curiosity, and have the ability to work collaboratively in teams, identify and develop new research areas, think holistically and in an interdisciplinary manner.
The professor is expected to collaborate with other sections of the department, other DTU departments, industry, utility companies and public authorities, and to contribute to knowledge-exchange with society in general.
The professor is expected to take a leading role in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels, in collaboration with other faculty members. Furthermore, the professor is expected to provide mentoring and supervision of post docs, assistant professors and researchers within the field.
Qualifications
A research and teaching track record documenting a productive career within several of the following topics is required: hydrological processes, field scale application of geophysics, remote sensing and sensor technologies, hydroeconomic models, regional-scale hydrodynamic modelling, data assimilation and optimisation.
Notable achievements are expected within research/innovation and research-related leadership.
Candidates must meet the following criteria for appointment:
•A high level of original scientific production at international level which has contributed to further development of the subject areas in question.
•Documented and successful teaching (including development, planning, coordination and evaluation of courses), and experience in project supervision at bachelor and master level
•Documented experience in research proposal development, research leadership, including management of national or international research projects, research programmes, conferences, and academic assessments.
•Documented experience with innovation in relation to industry, public/private companies and public authorities
Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
•the ability to teach
•scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
•the ability to promote and utilize research results
•experience with innovation activities
•an all-round experience basis, including international experience
•the ability to contribute to the development of the Department’s internal and external cooperation
•track record in attracting funding to the research area
•visions within the research area
For the specific position consideration will also be given to:
•Experience in managing a research group
•Experience in supporting and guiding young and mid-career researchers in their continued career Development
•Well-established network within the Danish and/or international water resources research community, and internationally leading research groups
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
