PhD Scholarships in “Microbial growth-regulation of Abies nordmanniana”

Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering two to three PhD Scholarships in “Microbial growth-regulation of Abies nordmanniana” commencing January 1st 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Project description

The scholarships are attached to a new research project: Microbial growth-regulation of Abies nordmanniana. The project focuses on increasing plant productivity by manipulating plant-microbe interactions as well as abiotic conditions to alter the phytohormone balance in the plants and thereby plant development. The project is divided into three interrelated areas with one Ph.D. fellowship allocated to each area.

Ph.D. fellowship 1 focuses on plant physiology with specific emphasis on the role of phytohormones in plant growth, nutrition and development; Ph.D. fellowship 2 addresses plant cell structure and physiological development as affected by light conditions and antioxidants, and Ph.D. fellowship 3 focuses on plant-microbe interactions with specific emphasis on microorganisms able to alter phytohormone levels in the plants.

Principal supervisors are:

Ph.D. fellowship 1: Associate Professor Bjarke Veierskov (bv@plen.ku.dk) - Growth and development; Professor Thomas Georg Roitsch (roitsch@plen.ku.dk) – Molecular physiology and hormone analysis.

Ph.D. fellowship 2: Associate Professor Bjarke Veierskov (bv@plen.ku.dk) - Growth and development; Associate Professor Helle Juel Martens (hjm@plen.ku.dk) – Plant anatomy and bioimaging; Associate Professor Pai Rosager (Pedas@carlsberglab.dk, Carlsberg Research Laboratories) – Plant nutrition

Ph.D. fellowship 3: Associate Professor Bjarke Veierskov (bv@plen.ku.dk)- Growth and development; Associate Professor Ole Nybroe (oln@plen.ku.dk) – Rhizosphere microbiology.
