DTU Compute at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor in Learning Technology and Digitalization.
DTU Compute is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, development and education within the following scientific areas: mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
The professorship is attached to the section for statistics and data analysis, one of the eleven sections of the department. The department employs approximately 400 persons including presently a faculty of 90.
Responsibilities and tasks
This position is offered in connection with the consolidation of learning technology and digitalization as a research and innovation area at DTU Compute. With this position DTU Compute wants to establish an academic leadership of this activity.
The position of professor is a position through which DTU reinforces and develops a specific subject area, in partnership with other professors where appropriate. Primary tasks are research, research-based teaching, research management, external collaboration, innovation and research based consultancy. Other duties include supervision of assistant professors and researchers; academic assessment work and knowledge exchange with society.
In particular, with this position the professor should head, stimulate, and coordinate educational, research and innovation activities in learning technology and digitalization at DTU Compute with an emphasis on data science methods and with application to educational elements in data science and big data. We expect the professor to take a leading role in learning technology initiatives at DTU Compute and DTU. Learning Lab DTU will be an important collaborator. Moreover, the professor should support student innovation activities such as DTU Skylab and the OI-X programme.
The successful candidate is expected to take a lead position in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels.
Qualifications
The professor is expected to make a special effort in implementation of digital learning technology across the department’s scientific fields, as well as a research and innovation effort in digital learning technology. It is therefore expected that the applicant has experience both in implementation of e-learning as a teacher and as a programme leader.
We expect applicants to have contributed to research and innovation in teaching methods. Digital learning technology transcends mere remediation of learning materials to digital media. To reap the full potential of digital learning we expect a strong background in data science and big data enabling research and innovation in how data captured from the teaching processes can made useful. The professor is expected to lead change in teaching methods at the department and university and good managerial skills are expected. Innovation training is crucial to future generations of engineering students. We emphasize experience in student innovation activities.
Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to
•the ability to teach
•scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
•the ability to promote and utilize research results
•experience with innovation activities
•an all-round experience basis, including international experience
•the ability to contribute to the development of the Department’s internal and external cooperation
•track record in attracting funding to the research area
•visions within the research area
For the specific position consideration will also be given to:
•Leadership experience
•Didactics training
•Strong background in data science
•Experience with educational innovation and industrial collaboration
•Experience with educational collaboration across scientific disciplines
•Excellent collaborative skills
•The ability to inspire others and make things come true
Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
