DTU Transport at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor (with special responsibilities) in Traffic, Transport and Logistics Engineering Education.
DTU Transport’s fundamental activities concerns research in topics related to transport planning. In addition, the Department is deeply engaged in research-based collaboration with authorities, educational activities and industrial collaboration within its research areas. Hence, we emphasize that our research creates value for society in terms of its relevance for political decision-making, education of attractive graduates, and commercial knowledge for industry.
DTU Transport has an internationally oriented staff of about 85 employees, mainly scientists and PhD-students. The scientific staff is organized in three sections with a number of cross-sectional research themes exploiting the many scientific disciplines at the Department.
Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate is expected to lead the continuous development of the engineering education within the traffic, transport and logistics area and is also expected to contribute to research and innovation within at least one of the research areas of the department.
Both educational, research and innovation activities are expected to link to other relevant engineering areas that are related to or supporting the traffic, transport and logistics area. These areas include but are not limited to the educational and research activities taking place at DTU Management Engineering, DTU Compute, DTU Space and DTU Civil Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to facilitate and lead increased collaboration across these departments and across the various scientific disciplines present.
The emphasis of the position will be on educational activities. The successful candidate is expected to spearhead new activities in teaching and education at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels.
The professor is expected to participate in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels.
A position as Professor with Special Responsibilities is held for a limited time period and involves all the usual duties associated with a full professorship, as well as fixed-term specific duties which will vary according to the research program.
Qualifications
Candidates should already have obtained well-documented international recognition within their research field. Employment entails original research at the highest international level within traffic, transport and logistics.
The successful candidate should be able to document substantial experience with teaching at all university levels. And he/she should have previous experience with design, implementation and management of educational programmes, preferably within traffic, transport and logistics, including a solid insight in pedagogical aspects.
Furthermore, the successful candidate is able to document experience in research management, including handling management assignments in national or international projects, research programmes, congresses etc.
Assessment
In the assessment of the candidate consideration will be given to
•the candidate's qualification for handling the special, function-related assignment(s) that are associated with the position
•scientific production at international level, research potential and ability to lead and develop a research team
•the ability to teach
•the ability to promote and utilize research results
•experience with innovation activities
•an all-round experience basis, including international experience
•the ability to contribute to the development of the department’s internal and external cooperation
•the ability to attract funding to the research area
•visions within the research area
For the specific position consideration will also be given to:
•the candidate’s experience in (continuous) development of educational programmes at bachelor and/or master level
•experience with development of eLearning based teaching and education
•experience with student recruitment for educational programmes in traffic, transport and logistics
•experience in collaboration with SME’s as well as large companies and actors within the traffic, transport and logistics sectors
Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.The position is available for a 5-year period and may be extended for up to 3 years more.
