Job offer description

A 2-year postdoctoral position is available in the group of Nadja Møbjerg at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), with start January 2016 or shortly thereafter. The position is part of the project “Advanced Life in Extreme Environments”, funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research.

Area of research

Advanced Life in Extreme Environments (ALIEN) uses tardigrades as a model to gain new insight into unique adaptations to extreme environments. This is done through a detailed investigation of molecular, microanatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying the adaptations found among these enigmatic metazoans.

As a postdoc in ALIEN you will be part of a research team that addresses major challenges in our understanding of latent life phenomena (cryptobiosis) and other unique adaptations to extreme environmental conditions. The focus of the postdoc project will be on tardigrade transcriptomes and identification of molecular mechanisms underlying adaptations to extremes.

Qualifications

We seek a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or a similar field. Experience with tardigrades or other microscopic animals, transcriptomics and related molecular techniques and/or genomics and bioinformatics will be considered an asset. The candidate should have the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team. Fluent written and spoken English is a requirement.

Application

Applicants are requested to submit their application, in English, electronically below. The application must include:

•Letter of motivation, incl. a brief synopsis on research experience and technical skills (max. 2 pages)
