Job offer description

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

Lyngby-Taarbæk, 1 stilling

The Center for Bioprocess Engineering, Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, has a position open within the field of enzyme engineering. We are looking for a candidate with a strong academic record within molecular biology and significant hands-on experience in the field of enzyme discovery, cloning, expression, and protein engineering. The position is for 3 years: From Jan. 1. 2016-Dec. 31. 2018.

Job tasks

You will join our enzyme discovery and experimental enzyme technology research activities within CAZY enzymes including the novel accessory redox enzymes and also work on engineering of enzymes catalyzing reverse reactions (currently mainly transglycosylation). The enzyme work is based on systematic discovery, combining bioinformatics and molecular biology methods, and use of different molecular evolution methods. Our current expression systems are E. coli, Bacillus subtilis, and Pichia pastoris. The position includes research leadership responsibilities in our GMO labs within all steps of enzyme cloning, expression, protein engineering, and use of robot-based enzyme assessment methods. You will also be involved in supervision of MSc and PhD students.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a PhD degree in molecular biology, preferably within enzyme protein engineering. The candidate should also have:

•Documented hands-on experience in recombinant gene expression in bacteria and/or yeast

•Documented research experience within enzyme protein engineering and cloning

•Knowledge of plant biomass conversion and carbohydrate chemistry/processes

•Good written and verbal communication skills in English (knowledge of Danish is a plus).

Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to

•Educational background and relevance of research and supervision experience

•Publication record within the field of the position: enzyme design, gene expression, molecular engineering

•Relevance of molecular biology background and experimental experience

•Hands-on experience within explorative, innovative methods in the field

•Ability to communicate, notably written and verbal English skills
