The position is open within the Section for Eukaryotic Biotechnology, one of 5 research sections at the Department of Systems Biology.

The Section for Eukaryotic Biotechnology is dedicated to the exploitation of biodiversity as a source of new compounds and, through understanding cell biology and physiology, use systems and synthetic biology to design advanced cell factories. The profile of the section comprises research groups with competences in mycology, molecular biology, metabolomics, bioinformatics and fermentation technology. The Section seeks to expand the research portfolio to include a new research area which is expected to create synergy between the existing research groups.

Responsibilities and tasks

Responsibilities and tasks for applicant applying at Assistant Professor and Associate Professor level, the successful candidate will be expected to:

•Make a significant contribution to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in Biotechnology, in particular Fermentation Technology and the quantitative aspects of monitoring fungal submerged cultivations.

•Attract research grants.

•Strengthen scientific collaborations both within the Department and to external academic and industrial partners.

For applicants applying at Associate Professor level, the successful candidate will additionally be expected to:

•Demonstrate expertise and leadership in a defined research area within quantitative microbial physiology.

•Establish an externally funded research program that supports the training of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

The successful candidate is expected to pursue an innovative and internationally competitive research program in the field of quantitative microbial physiology that takes advantage of the existent competences and infrastructure in the section.

The Section infrastructure includes a Fermentation Platform (comprising 60 bioreactors up to 10 liter scale, MS-off-gas analyzer and a robotic system for automated small scale cultivations). The research plan of an applicant is expected to take advantage of this equipment. In addition the Section houses a state of the art Metabolomics Platform, and the Department hosts a Microarray Core Facility and Proteomics Platform which can also be utilized in research projects.
