Viking Cruises offers both river and ocean cruises that are destination-focused and carefully crafted with a mix of cosmopolitan cities and smaller ports of interest. Founded in 1997 as Viking River Cruises, the company has undergone rapid expansion in the river cruise industry, holding the largest market share and operating the largest fleet, with 35 modern, deluxe vessels including the innovative and award-winning Viking Longships TM. In 2013, the company evolved to the current brand name of Viking Cruises, and launched an ocean cruise product line. A reinvention of the ocean cruise category, the Viking Cruises ocean experience focuses on destination-centric cruising in the small ship category and will debut in 2015 with Viking Star sailing itineraries in Scandinavia and the Baltic; the Western and Eastern Mediterranean; and cross-region itineraries.
